Autumn tree

Hello, readers!

Once again, the new moon is on it’s way (Friday 4th October 2013) and as we’re all aware by now, this lunar phase is a great opportunity to set intentions and develop new adventures.

Usually my articles have focused on such lofty goals as personal development and self empowerment, but this one is going to be a little different.  Now don’t get me wrong, it’s admirable and necessary to aim for the best and to do what we can to make our world a little brighter; but you, me and the bloke on the bus all have to actually live in this world and – let’s face it – a girl’s gotta eat!

So this new moon, I’ve taken my inspiration from all that gold on the trees and I want us to dare to demand the best from our pockets as well as from ourselves as we explore this little Tarot ritual for welcoming fortune into our lives.

Ace of Pentacles, Morgan-Greer Deck

Ace of Pentacles, Morgan-Greer Deck

Growin’ Some Green

What you will need:

  • Acorns and oak leaves;
  • Ace of Pentacles;
  • 10 shiny new pennies (or other coins);
  • A green candle;
  • Any or all of these essential oils: orange, cinnamon, myrrh, rose.

What to do:

  • Before the new moon, gather your acorns, leaves and shiny pennies
  • On the night of the new moon, dress your candle with your essential oils (to do this, drop your essential oils on to a tissue or clean cloth.  Starting at the base of the candle, apply the oil in a clockwise spiral up towards the wick – think unicorn horn – setting your intention as you go) and surround it with your leaves and acorns – be as creative with this as you like.  Light the candle and meditate on the flame and leaves.  Calm yourself and still your mind.found on weheartit.com
  • Place your Tarot card in front of the candle.  As you repeat the following charm, place a penny on the card at the end of each line:

Gladden my heart and uplift my soul,

This copper I would turn to gold.

Fill my pockets with wealth to spare,

My hands overflow with abundance to share.

Notes like leaves and coins like seeds,

I plant this wish to grow some green!

Fortune to last until the end of my days,

Under grace and in perfect ways.

Blessed be.

  • Sit and imagine the happiness that would come with having abundance.  Don’t get distracted in such fantasies as rolling around on a bed of cash, but imagine a steady flow of money into your life that eases any financial tensions you might be experiencing.  Meditate on this until the time feels right to extinguish the candle.
  • Now for the fun part – give away your blessed pennies.  Yes!  Do it!  I feel the Native American tradition of the Sacred Give Away explains this best:

“The answer to conflict is the Give-Away . . . Whenever one gives from his heart, he also receives . . . The Medicine Power is within all People, and all of the things of the Universe. The Power has been generous in His Giving and has taught us Understanding so that we might also Give.” ( pp 126-127)

~ from the book “Seven Arrows” by Hyemeyohsts Storm.

So, give away your charmed money.  Put it in a busker’s hat, a charity box, or a tip jar.  Don’t give them all at once, spread the fortune around!  Each time you hand over a coin, repeat the phrase “These coins are seeds, I pass them on to grow some green.”  Keep one penny in your purse, pocket or wallet.  Draw an oak leaf on it or mark it in some other way so that you don’t give it away by accident, and each time you see it when you reach to pay for something, give thanks for the money in your hand – however little it seems to begin with.  Because remember, from tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow!

Why the Ace of Pentacles?

The Ace of Pentacles is a card of prosperity and signifies the beginning of new financial ventures – the garden represents both the abundance of nature but also the care and attention needed to bring a garden – and your finances – to life.

Go the Extra Mile.

Learn about your attitude to money by doing a reading for yourself using just the pentacles from your deck – the standard Celtic Cross would work a treat!
